San Cisco - Diane Young (Vampire Weekend Cover)

Fremantle is a tiddly little city just outside of Perth, in Western Australia. Aussie heart-throbs and indie pop champions San Cisco are possibly Fremantle's biggest and best export (and I couldn't resist making a joke, as Fremantle serves as Perth's state port).

Their debut self-titled album came out in 2012 in Australia and last summer in the UK, and it's truly wonderful. Combining the folksy sound that was witnessed in their earlier EPs (Golden Revolver, Awkward) with summer surf pop sounds, the four-piece released a genuine ray of sunshine that is universally loved.

They recorded a cover of Vampire Weekend's 'Diane Young' as part of a Gigwise cover session and it's truly wonderful. Jordi, Josh, Nick and Scarlett cite MGMT and Vampire Weekend as two of their major influences in their shift from the folksy sound heard in 'Girls Do Cry' to the slightly more electronic sound seen in 'Beach' and 'Nepal', just to name a couple.

Immortalised by the blogosphere with their huge cover of 'Get Lucky' on triple j last summer, this cover doesn't fail to impress. Jordi's voice sounds not dissimilar to Ezra's, and the beach pop/rock sound complement each other perfectly, providing a wonderful cover.
