Ellie Goulding - Life Round Here (ft. Angel Haze) (James Blake & Chance the Rapper cover)

Pop queen Ellie Goulding and up-and-coming hip-hop rap star Angel Haze have teamed up to cover James Blake and his own collaboration with Chance the Rapper. 'Life Round Here' was one of my favourite tracks on Retrograde and the collaboration with Chance, another incredibly talented newcomer to the rap scene.

This cover in particular has a future-R&B vibe about it, with a good mix of Goulding's vocals and Haze's talented skills. It keeps the moody sounding vibes of the original too! Check out the original and the new cover below.

Clean Bandit - Royals (Lorde cover)

Clean Bandit hit the Live Lounge to perform their new single, 'Rather Be' as well as a mystery cover on Thursday. I tweeted them on Wednesday night to see if they had a clue for the Twittersphere and here's what they gave us:

Turns out that they were referring to Lorde's 2013 breakout hit, 'Royals'. In classic Clean Bandit style, they delivered. The combination of classical instruments combined with the dance/electronic/house style we associate them with provided for this. Listen below.

San Cisco - Diane Young (Vampire Weekend Cover)

Fremantle is a tiddly little city just outside of Perth, in Western Australia. Aussie heart-throbs and indie pop champions San Cisco are possibly Fremantle's biggest and best export (and I couldn't resist making a joke, as Fremantle serves as Perth's state port).

Their debut self-titled album came out in 2012 in Australia and last summer in the UK, and it's truly wonderful. Combining the folksy sound that was witnessed in their earlier EPs (Golden Revolver, Awkward) with summer surf pop sounds, the four-piece released a genuine ray of sunshine that is universally loved.

They recorded a cover of Vampire Weekend's 'Diane Young' as part of a Gigwise cover session and it's truly wonderful. Jordi, Josh, Nick and Scarlett cite MGMT and Vampire Weekend as two of their major influences in their shift from the folksy sound heard in 'Girls Do Cry' to the slightly more electronic sound seen in 'Beach' and 'Nepal', just to name a couple.

Immortalised by the blogosphere with their huge cover of 'Get Lucky' on triple j last summer, this cover doesn't fail to impress. Jordi's voice sounds not dissimilar to Ezra's, and the beach pop/rock sound complement each other perfectly, providing a wonderful cover.

Summer Camp - Last Christmas (Wham! Cover)

'tis the season to cover Wham! songs! Summer Camp are the latest to give their take on the classic, as part of the second A Christmas Gift to You From Moshi Moshi compilation, and it's another lovely take on the 1984 hit.

It's a celebration for Moshi Moshi Records - 15 years! As a gift to fans, you can download a free compilation of hits from this year, including tracks from Summer Camp themselves, who have released their second (and self-titled album) this year. We might have a Wham! cover for every day until Christmas. Who knows?

Peace - Last Christmas (Wham! Cover)

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Just this morning, Peace posted their epic cover of "Last Christmas" (originally by Wham!) for the world to fall in love with. And boy, I fell in love with it! The boys from Worcester are starting to hit Bastille-level on their covers, following the success of "White Noise" (Disclosure)

Produced by Blaine Harrison, frontman of Mystery Jets, the four-piece add a subtle alt-rock twang to a proper classic, with frontman Harry Koisser's voice adding a new dimension to the track, creating a totally different sound compared to George Michael's version, back in 1984. It's brilliant! Keep your eyes peeled for a Christmas cover compilation in the coming days!

Peace are on tour right now, grab some tickets right here: Seetickets

Trails and Ways - Lost (Frank Ocean Cover)

Describing their own sound as "bossa nova dream pop", you can tell there's something unique about Trails and Ways, an indie-pop quartet from Oakland, north California. By performing tracks in English, Spanish and Portuguese they've shown that they're multi-talented, and this led to their Trilingual EP earlier this year.

With their sound having an undeniably global feel (various members travelled to Brazil and Spain, collecting global sounds the way we collect souvenirs), they've been putting out samba-inflected indie pop for a while, most notably seen with "Mtn Tune", one of their most beautiful songs (even if you take the political lyricism into account), and this is consistent across the board with other tracks such as "Nunca" and "Como Te Vas".

Today they've released an international styled cover of "Lost", one of the standout tracks on Frank Ocean's breakout album Channel Orange, which was released last year. Alternating between Portuguese and English, the multi-vocalist quartet deliver a tribal, chilled track that's sure to be received pretty well across the blogosphere. It's a pleasure to listen to it, and it's currently available for free download on their Soundcloud page. I highly encourage you to download it!

Elizabeth Rose - Rhythm of the Night (Corona Cover)

It's Ausmusic month in November, and to celebrate it, Australian station Triple J are inviting some of the best Aussie acts into the studio on Friday mornings to take part in their weekly 'Like A Version' segment! Now, it is late Thursday night here in the UK but that's irrelevant! We've featured The Paper Kites and Horrorshow on here in previous weeks - this week it's Elizabeth Rose.

Elizabeth Rose is an Australian DJ/singer-songwriter/all-round good person with an incredibly talented voice - she was earmarked as one of the 20 Aussie indie acts to watch in 2012, and she's making quite a stir in and across the nation, and there's good reason for that! Her cover of choice today was Corona's 90s dance hit "Rhythm of the Night". Fans of a certain Bastille will be aware that "Of The Night", from Other People's Heartache is their upcoming single, but Rose (real name Elizabeth Maniscalco) has gone all the way back to the 90s for her version. It's simply brilliant - the electronic sound is superb, her vocals are sharp and the whole piece works.

Enjoy.

Angel Haze - Summertime Sadness (Lana Del Rey Cover)

I have to confess that I'm not too sure why I didn't post this yesterday - particularly as I'd downloaded it and listened to it...a lot, but oh well! Detroit rapper (and now songstress) Angel Haze has spent the bulk of the last month freestyling and covering big tracks of the moment, ranging from Miley Cyrus to Kendrick Lamar, and she's delivered on each and every one.

Yesterday she released her version of "Summertime Sadness", which was originally from Lana Del Rey's début Born to Die and more recently blasted in nightclubs and all over radio stations, thanks to the Cedric Gervais remix. Haze displays her talent as a vocalist again on this track, managing to deliver spot on vocals over a drum beat and simple piano sound.

Angel Haze is proving to be more than the one trick pony that some have claimed her to be, and this is another massive step in the right direction. Dirty Gold, her début, is due out soon.

MS MR - Dance Yrself Clean (LCD Soundsystem Cover)

Back in February, New York indie-pop stars MS MR went into Triple J's 'Like A Version' and pulled off one of the covers of the year - "Dance Yrself Clean", from the last ever LCD Soundsystem album, This is Happening. Now radio versions are brilliant when they're covers - but the duo have gone one better and recorded a studio version of it!

The original came at the start of James Murphy's album and clocked in at 9 minutes, and set the scene for an amazing final album with tracks including "Drunk Girls" and "I Can Change". This version is half that length and just as brilliant - it packs a punch just as much as the first version. Having seen them at Reading Festival earlier this year, they're well worth checking out on tour if you can!

This version of "Dance Yrself Clean" is the B-side on the 10" of Fantasy, the next single from Secondhand Rapture. It's due out November 18th.

Arctic Monkeys - Walk On The Wild Side (Live) (Lou Reed Cover)

Arctic Monkeys surprised fans at their gig in Liverpool last night by covering "Walk on the Wild Side" last night as part of their encore, the next in a long line of tributes to the late Lou Reed. Local boy Bill Ryder Jones (formerly of The Coral) came out to join the band on a number of tracks, including this cover - watch and listen below.

"Walk on the Wild Side" is arguably the most famous song in Lou Reed's collection. The former Velvet Underground vocalist is posthumously on for a chart position this weekend, with a spike in sales reported. According to the official UK charts, "Walk on the Wild Side" (1973) and "Perfect Day" (1972) are currently 33 and 38 respectively, while the 2004 remaster of "Satellite of Love" is at 138. The album from which they're all from, Transformer, is set for a album chart position - it's currently at 24.

Lou Reed passed away at his Long Island home on Sunday (October 27) after a long battle with liver disease - he was 71.

Holy Ghost! - Hold On, We're Going Home (Drake Cover)

Hold on now. Holy Ghost! have released the next in a long line of "Hold On, We're Going Home" covers, and boy, this one delivers! This was always gonna work as a synth pop cover: there's no rap, hardly any R&B and this just works brilliantly. The New York duo have done the job here, and at the moment it's available for a free download (click below). If you like what you listen to, their new album Dynamics is out now!

Bastille - (I Just) Died In Your Arms (Cutting Crew Cover)

To celebrate 40 years of Virgin Records, the company have released a 3 track compilation of some of the biggest and best tracks ever released by them. With a back catalogue of...40 years, there are some absolute classics on there, ranging from Phil Collins to Shaggy to The Kooks and CHVRCHES...so that's a serious collection!
On the 3rd CD is a selection of covers featuring covers from The Kooks, Corinne Bailey Rae, KT Tunstall, Josh Record, Ella Eyre and Bastille. Bastille have only gone and covered Cutting Crew's classic "(I Just) Died In Your Arms"! It's everything you'd imagine a Bastille cover to be: drums, pianos, samples and then some, with a snake-charmery kinda sound in the background during the chorus. It's awesome!
You can buy 'Virgin Records: 40 Years of Disruptions' now!

Angel Haze - Same Love (Macklemore Cover)

It doesn't matter where you look nowadays, Macklemore and his music is everywhere! Angel Haze's debut album drops at the end of the month, and to celebrate, the Brooklyn-based rapper is posting a brand new freestyle track everyday as part of the #30GOLD collection. So far she's freestyled over Kanye West, Jay-Z, Drake and Kendrick Lamar so far, with every track getting big love online.

Today she's turned to Macklemore's "Same Love" and nailed it. No need to say anything else really. The album's out at the end of the month, and every one of the #30GOLD collection will be posted on her Soundcloud page.

Horrorshow - Can I Kick It? / Walk On The Wild Side (A Tribe Called Quest / Lou Reed cover)

Every Friday morning, acts from around the world go into the Triple J studio to perform an original track and a mystery cover for 'Like A Version'. This week it was Horrorshow.

Horrorshow are an Aussie hip-hop duo from Inner West Sydney. Solo (vocals) and Adit (producer) went into Triple J radio yesterday morning and pulled off an absolutely stunning cover of ATCQ and Lou Reed with a little audience participation from Tom and Alex (presenters from the show).

Adding a new feel to two classic tracks with such style and flair isn't always the easiest thing to do but Horrorshow have pulled it off. Listen here.

White Lies - Ride (Lana Del Rey cover)

Busy year for White Lies! Their latest album BIG TV has received good reviews, they've spent a fair amount of time playing at festivals and now they've got time to cover Lana Del Rey's "Ride". The hit from 2012 was released as part of the deluxe edition of her début album and currently has just under 17 million plays on Spotify.

The boys from White Lies covered this track and gave it a new minimal feel. Harry McVeigh's tone of voice is perfectly complimented with the simple xylophone, bass and keys combo. I think it's safe to say it's a brilliant interpretation of a great track. Don't believe me? Listen below.

The Paper Kites - Help Me Lose My Mind (Disclosure Cover)

The Paper Kites are a 5 piece from Melbourne, who have gained a lot of support over Australia in the last couple of years, with hype peaking after their debut record States. With tracks like "Young", the 5-piece are becoming a staple feature on iPods and MP3 players across Oz.

They popped into Triple J yesterday for the weekly Like A Version feature. Much like the Live Lounge, bands play a song of their own and then a mystery cover. This week, the band performed a chilling cover of Disclosure (ft. London Grammar)'s "Help Me Lose My Mind". It's absolutely brilliant. Listen below.
