Fremantle is a tiddly little city just outside of Perth, in Western Australia. Aussie heart-throbs and indie pop champions San Cisco are possibly Fremantle's biggest and best export (and I couldn't resist making a joke, as Fremantle serves as Perth's state port).
Their debut self-titled album came out in 2012 in Australia and last summer in the UK, and it's truly wonderful. Combining the folksy sound that was witnessed in their earlier EPs (Golden Revolver, Awkward) with summer surf pop sounds, the four-piece released a genuine ray of sunshine that is universally loved.
They recorded a cover of Vampire Weekend's 'Diane Young' as part of a Gigwise cover session and it's truly wonderful. Jordi, Josh, Nick and Scarlett cite MGMT and Vampire Weekend as two of their major influences in their shift from the folksy sound heard in 'Girls Do Cry' to the slightly more electronic sound seen in 'Beach' and 'Nepal', just to name a couple.
Immortalised by the blogosphere with their huge cover of 'Get Lucky' on triple j last summer, this cover doesn't fail to impress. Jordi's voice sounds not dissimilar to Ezra's, and the beach pop/rock sound complement each other perfectly, providing a wonderful cover.

Flume & Chet Faker - Drop The Game
This is very, very exciting. Earlier today Australian electronic master Flume unveiled the artwork for his collaborative EP with Chet Faker. The pair have worked together before, with the latter providing vocals to "Left Alone", one of the numerous fantastic tracks from Flume's self -titled debut. Individually, Chet Faker (born Nicholas Murphy) is extremely popular in Australia, particularly within the indie community. Notable tracks from him include his incredible cover of "No Diggity", along with tracks from his début EP Thinking in Textures. Add that to collaborations with Ta-ku and Say Lou Lou and you have a pretty impressive repertoire, only a year and a half after his début release.
"Drop The Game" is the first track released by Future Classic in anticipation of the Lockjaw EP (Nov 22: Aus/NZ, Nov 25: UK/Europe, Nov 26: North America) and let me tell you now, it's fantastic. Immediately from the get-go Chet launches into a powerful first verse about the consequences of an unknown's 'soul', with a delightfully simple orchestrated background sound, that breaks into the Flume-esque chorus, adding beats and synths that are a staple factor of his track. That sound develops more and more throughout the track, with a breakdown section in the middle leading to a gradual shift towards the full Flume electronic-effect with a call-and-repeat cry in the background. Layering Faker's vocals over his own background vocals is excellent. All round, this gets me excited for next weeks release. Fantastic stuff.

Lunatics on Pogosticks - Blood Clot
You may have read it at some point, but it's Ausmusic month this November on triple j, with a particular emphasis on Australian acts - Friday morning saw Elizabeth Rose on 'Like A Version', this Friday it's Franz Ferdinand with a special cover of an Australian song, and so on.
triple j unearthed, the Australian equivalent of BBC Introducing, have released a free mixtape to celebrate and promote some of the best upcoming artists in Oz. This track by 'triple j unearthed high' winners Lunatics on Pogosticks is one of my favourites. It's called "Blood Clot" and it's a proper garage-rock track that screams of summer rebellion.
Lunatics on Pogosticks describe themselves as "a trio of teen Aussie rapscallions that have been squeezing out some tasty tunes since gestation" and it really shows. Hailing from the North Coast (NSW), lead vocalist/guitarist Calum Newton, drummer James Whitfield and bass-face specialist Bryce Wilson are tapping into a musical niche that I adore - fun loving, exciting indie rock that screams "SUMMER".
I really recommend that you listen to this and pass it on to everyone you chat to. Love it.

The Paper Kites - Help Me Lose My Mind (Disclosure Cover)
The Paper Kites are a 5 piece from Melbourne, who have gained a lot of support over Australia in the last couple of years, with hype peaking after their debut record States. With tracks like "Young", the 5-piece are becoming a staple feature on iPods and MP3 players across Oz.
They popped into Triple J yesterday for the weekly Like A Version feature. Much like the Live Lounge, bands play a song of their own and then a mystery cover. This week, the band performed a chilling cover of Disclosure (ft. London Grammar)'s "Help Me Lose My Mind". It's absolutely brilliant. Listen below.

New Navy - Regular Town (Baio Remix)
There's something about Australian indie-pop that lightens up my day. It's almost always summery, cheeky, rebellious and generally fun! Chris Baio from Vampire Weekend has released this lovely little remix of Regular Town, completely slowing it down and giving it a new dimension.
By lowering the tempo and replacing the cutesy xylophones and guitars with steel drums, as well as slowing down Luke O'Loughlin's vocals, Baio has transformed this from glowing sun-kissed pop to something else entirely. Still sounds awesome. Chilled as you like.
Pick up a free download from the Future Classic soundcloud page if you like it.
